Pipe organ by E. G. & G. Hook, 1867
The pipe organ in the Unitarian Church in Peterborough, New Hampshire, USA is a magnificent instrument of great musical and historic value. Made by E. & G. G. Hook, it entered service in 1867. In 1933, an electro-pneumatic action was installed to replace the original tracker action, and the sound made more bright and powerful by additional of pipes and change in stop configuration. Towards the 20th century's end, some components installed during the conversion began to fail and under the initial leadership of Arlene Dart, church organist, a restoration project began. In the fall of 2002, restoration by the Andover Organ Company was almost complete and the organ reinstalled and rededicated. On March 14th, 2004 the organ, played by Peter Sykes, world renowned organist and harpsichordist from Boston, MA will give its inaugural recital. The public is invited to attend this free festival. A full history of the organ has been written by Doug Copley.
